Chinese website Hard Spell has come up with details on the first three processors to introduce Intel's next Core i7 line of chips.

"1. Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition i7-965 (3.2GHz, 8MB L3, LGA1366, Product Code BX80601965 & QPI 6.4GT/sec). $1,412 USD

2. Intel Core i7-940 (2.93GHz, 8MB L3, LGA1366, Product Code BX80601940 & QPI 4.8GT/sec),  $720 USD.

3. Intel Core i7-920 (2.66GHz, 8MB L3, LGA1366, Product Code BX80601920 & QPI 4.8GT/sec),  $367 USD."

Those prices are most probably for batches of 1,000, so in retail, they'll be a bit more expensive. Previously, sources believed that new CPUs were going to be about %25 cheaper than the prices above.

$1,412 for the extreme? That only means it'll be pushing $2000 in the UK. But otherwise they look like decent prices I guess, lets just hope they perform as well as expected.

Think about it though. Not so long ago four cores were expensive. Now you can pick them up for less than a week's wages.

    Ouch, no thank you >_>

Course, by the time I build my PC (If I ever do), the prices would probably slashed quite a bit >_>

why in the world is the 940 double the 920? its not the 1840 vs the 920! come on intel. 300 mhz is not enough to warrant that much of a spike.

usually they price it in the $500s.

    I'll take a $275 2.66 ghz tho! 8 cores 8mb cache

but guys remember, 1066 ddr333 is the cap =/

I'm not going to trust this article for one reason. The guy can't get his facts right. The Core i7 is a QUAD core not an OCTO Core (Except with the rumored server chips that the highest end with has 8 cores w/ HT). Quad with HT means 8 threads, not 8 cores.

Mmmm Jon, he means 8 virtual cores since each core supports 2 threads, thus the 4 cores appear as 8 to the OS.
