Warhammer Online beta off to a rocky start in Europe

Registration issues create major setbacks

Warhammer Online beta off to a rocky start in Europe Image 1

Open beta for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning kicked off this past Sunday, September 7.

However, its European launch hit a few snags, and GOA, the game's publisher and operator, has issued a formal apology to hopeful gamers who were unable to log on with their registration codes.

Ghislaine Le Rhun, GOA's chief executive, made a post on the European WAR site early this morning:

Dear all,

I rarely address players directly, but I wanted to write you as too few of you have been able to access the open beta today.

As my team explained in the previous post, although we have opened the servers and corrected numerous issues during the last 24 hours but we have not yet solved the issue of saturated Open Beta key activations that we’re currently experiencing. I am sincerely sorry for this, and I understand all the frustration the situation has spawned.

Today was a dark day. We expected a massive influx of players, but reality was even harsher.
I personally commit that we will communicate to you as clearly as possible on the resolution of these current issues. My goal is to give Warhammer Online the success it deserves. Be ensured that all GOA teams, with Mythic’s support, are working hard to bring you the best possible game experience.

Best regards,
Ghislaine Le Rhun
GOA CEO

An earlier update to the site confirmed "serious problems" with the authentication system on top of exceptionally high amounts of traffic and an unidentified problem that slipped through the cracks during playtesting.  As a result, only closed beta testers and a lucky few new players were able to get in without any complications.

The WAR team has been working around the clock to resolve these issues, and they're expecting the game to be 100% back on track by late Monday morning.

Probably worth mentioning that the north american open beta launched without a hitch.

Doesn't the game come out properly in a weeks time?

Sept 18 yes.
Its a shame the euro version was snagged. I was playing the open beta a day early and started playing on Sunday even before the servers were announced to be officialy live

Late Monday evening here, apparently they've got some sort of a temporary arrangement for adding beta keys to your account. However, account registration/password retrieval is still down, so very few are able to get into the game. I guess it's better that the service is down than being all bugged and online as it was yesterday as well as this morning. I've noticed that the lack of commenting and evasiveness on part of War's European distributor's, GOA, has raised some serious doubts of their competency to manage this game. At least that's the general impression I get from just about every person I talk about this with.

Ice -=> I'm not sure. It seems like pretty much every big MMORPG launched is plagued by big problems at the start. Sort of the nature of the beta beast.
