Will use same engine as the video game
Traveller's Tales has revealed that the upcoming spin-off cartoon of their latest LEGO Batman project will be using the same engine as the upcoming video game.
Producer Rich Earl of Traveller's Tales confirmed the TV show is in the works, though the production process will be done by a seperate studio in the United States:
"We're looking to do... a LEGO Batman series. I think they're looking at doing a one-off initially. And they're basically able to utilise the assets, because our team has brought LEGO characters to life. My understanding is that they will use the engine, the Maya files where the characters come to life, but they'll be creating animated... I think it's a 20-minute cartoon. I'm personally quite intrigued to see how it comes out. Lego, every time they've had a new brand out, they've done some CGI stuff as well, but I think this will be quite different."
The success of the LEGO games is nothing to shake a stick at. The LEGO Star Wars series sold 15 million alone, and the most recent LEGO Indiana Jones managed to knock Grand Theft Auto IV of its high horse in the UK back in June.
Unlike these previous titles, LEGO Batman is based off the comic book universe rather than any of the movies. It will be available this fall for multiple consoles.
