Wii Dvd player for free - but not from Nintendo

If Nintendo was smart, they would release the DVD player software they MUST have in their labs for free - and now, as otherwise tens of thousands of people who otherwise would not bother would start using homebrew ware.

Gizmodo reports on a homebrew version of mplayer being available for the Wii that purports to play DVD's and also media files of SD - for free.

I don't know about you guys, but it sounds like a good idea to me.

Seriously, though. The Wii doesn't need to be used for DVDs. Can you really not afford a 20 dollar DVD player to sit next to your 400 dollar PSCrap?

The ability for it to play media files is the only thing that interests me. Console DVD usually isn't that good.

That's why it sells so well. People <3 outdated technology. I like the 360 well enough, but it's HDDVD player ain't much use anymore. Eventually blueray will be replaced. The Wii is the one that won't have a feature phased out ten years from now. I still play my N64, because it's timeless. I wouldn't personally put those extra things in a console system, minus my PC, which I can upgrade myself when crap gets phased out.

Nintendo is working on a DVD compatibility but its gonna take more than a update when the wiis with color come out those will have a DVD feature also rumors saying wii is gettin a 720p graphic update?

eh, im not one for homebrew, but i guess if someone doesnt have a DVD player it would be useful, but other than that its useless
