Nintendo silences Shiggy
Love him or hate him (but who could really hate him?), Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto is a pioneer, and in more ways than one. As the Times Online puts it:
After [he] developed a love of puzzles, the “brain-training” software that has proved to be an international “killer application” on the Nintendo DS console was born. He became interested in taking more exercise, and Wii Fit was created. He took up music lessons, and Wii Music was the result.
So it seems, he's a talented man that loves to share his worlds and hobbies with the rest of us. But those days, at least in part, appear to be gone, as Nintendo has reportedly banned him from speaking publicly about his hobbies. Why? Apparently "any glimpse inside his head could be worth billions." It's a good thing he is who he is or I'd be seriously worried about the guy's ego. I mean, I'd be worried about my ego if news outlets were writing that sort of stuff about me, and a company like Nintendo was ordering a public ban on my thoughts.
"Your thoughts are too powerful Mr. Miyamoto, we must contain them."
"But, but.."
"Dammit man, there's no time!"
You get the idea. While Satoru Iwata is Nintendo's president, Shiggy is who we all look to, from fans to designers to whoever else. Iwata is more the business guy, which is fine and you need that, while Miyamoto is essentially the driving creative force. It's just a shame he won't be able to spread the love like he used to.
