Nintendo proves to be a worthy adversary for Sony
Sony's PlayStation Portable has always been extremely popular in Japan, and the handheld has been leading sales in 2008. However, recent sales figures have shown Nintendo closing in with the DS Lite, threatening to outshine Sony yet again.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that according to Japanese data analysis group Media Create, the PSP still holds onto its top position on hardware sales charts in Japan with 61,181 units sold. Nintendo's DS follows closely with 57,398. The data applies to this last week, ending on August 3.
On a similar note, the PlayStation 3 has dropped a several notches, having sold only 9,508 units; on the other hand, the Wii is moving up, wracking up 41,109 sales by the end of the week.
Lower still is the PS2, which still outsold Microsoft's Xbox 360 at 9,045 and 5,359 units, respectively, with a difference of 3,686.
As popular as the PSP seems to be right now, the DS STILL blows it out of the water in terms of software and lifetime sales. That hasn't changed.
