Recently, Asus has made available a $100 rebate on the short shelf lived Eee PC 900 - and now they appear to have chopped the prices of the newest Eee PC, the 1000 - at least at

; Amazon only shows them as being available for pre-order, and NCIX does not show the drop - so it could be just a NewEgg sale on the 1000's.

Frankly, even $549 is too much, as you can get a much higher powered laptop for about $450 these days, but at least its a move in the right direction.
