The ESA's jar is rumoured to empty
Dom C. - Monday, June 9th, 2008 | 10:47PM (PT)

So two more will be leaving? No surprises there...

If you've been keeping up with the latest News, the ESA has been losing members at a quick rate, possibly due to the new leader, Michael Galagher.

Currently Activision, Vivendi, Id, and LucasArts are the most important companies to have left. The four companies together represent a large section of the Video Game industry and millions of dollars. Activision are the ones responsible for the huge hit series, "Guitar Hero," while Vivendi Publishes the even larger hit, the MMORPG "World of Warcraft," with 10 million fans paying a monthly subscription.

The ESA was originally formed to give the video game industry a voice in congress, and to keep the government from regulating violent videogames such as the "Grand Theft Auto" series.

The official ESA website still shows 24 members, however some say that will change shortly.

Hal Halpin, the Head of a consumer group called the "Entertainment Consumers Association," has mentioned that he knows of two more companies planning to jump ship. He also knows "several others that are unhappy but remain with the organization."

"It's really concerning for all of us. Anyone who cares about the games business should be concerned about what's going on with the ESA," he said.

Activision recently released news of Guitar Hero: World Tour, and it seemed... anti-climatic from my point of view, hearing the mass news after E3 seems to make everything more interesting.

Once again, we're left wondering if E3 will be dead quiet or whether Michael Gallagher will somehow turn the tables and get everyone to stay.

It would be more interesting news if people actually counted the people off properly.

LucasArts being a company laying off mass amounts of their employee's not being able to keep up with dues for the membership.

Vivendi and Activision being a single entity (despite how much people like to pretend they're not) and the fact that their arm provides publishing power to id software, rare is it that devs go outside the scope of their publisher for space. id hasn't done it in the past and it's not likely they'd just do it on a whim now.

So the magical 4 turn into 2 and one of those two is surrounded in problems already so really it's one primary focus.

More or less trying to put an actual spin of reality on things instead of omg 18900995185091 people are lavingz.
