Atari recently sent word that Alone in the Dark for the Xbox 360, Wii, PC, and Playstation 2 platforms will be released on June 24th in North America, June 20th in Europe, and July 3rd for Australia. The Playstation 3 didn't receive a precise release date, it was noted that it is expected to come out in the Fall of 2008.

Back before Infrogames merged into Atari, they released the first Alone in the Dark on the PC in 1992. It was one of the first 3D survival horror games, which amassed a large fanbase for later sequels and other games in the genre such as the Silent Hill series. In this Alone in the Dark set in Manhattan, you once again play as the paranormal investigator Edward Carnby as you fight through almost everything to uncover a hidden truth about Central Park that has long been protected.

New technology as allowed the player to control Edward Carnby with "real world rules", where basically anything that you can do in the real world, you can do in the game, according to Atari. An example from a recent video would be the use of weapons, you can get creative thanks to this feature. Simply make a hole in a bottle with fuel in it, put tape on it, and throw it at an enemy. It will stick with help from the tape, and now you have a gasoline trail just begging for you to light it. The combinations of weapons you can make out of household products or objects you find lying around is almost endless!

    Hmm, that means that there better be alot of "Boom" sequences from this game seeing as you're allowed to create your own weapons..

    They release it on other formats first because it is cheap to do so, what is more, prices of PS3 Blu-rays blank discs are sky-rocketing that's why they make the money from other formats and then they gonna release it on PS3 after getting some money.

    It is all about manufacturing cost, damn!!!

    This game sounds great, i am go out and buy it as soon as it comes out, the weapons sound really good as soon as you can make you own up so there should be a lot of boom.

    releasing it both for the ps2 and ps3 is a bad idea if you ask me...people will just buy the ps2 version since most people have a ps2 and not a ps3, especially if the ps3 version is released after the ps2...anyway as long as i'm concerned the best survival horror game is project zero (or fatal frame), one of the reasons i will buy a wii in the future is because project zero 4 (fatal frame 4) is a wii-exclusive

    So maximising the target audience is a bad things? For both PS3 and PS2?

    Also did, "The combinations of weapons you can make out of household products or objects you find lying around is almost endless!" scream out Macgyver to anyone?

    @dal112

    "thing" and "idea" aren't the same, what i meant is that strategy-wise, it's not the best they could do, they'll be losing more than what they'll gain

    since i never played alone in the dark before i'm not exactly eager to start now, it does seem good though, i guess we'll see

    X Revenge, what you are forgetting is that a lot of people will buy it on the PS3 for better graphics alone... They might give some exclusive content to that copy as well.

    who cares about graphics? and if the only thing you care about in games is the graphics then i feel sorry for you
    but why didn't anyone say anything bout the pun in the title of the article anyway?
