Asus shows Eee Box
William Henning - Friday, June 6th, 2008 | 1:09PM (PT)

Small & cheap

The Eee box is supposed to be an inexpensive, energy efficient computer for everyday use - definitely not for gamers.

At 1" thick, the 8.5"x7" box is small, not quite as small in two dimensions as a Mac Mini (6.5"x6.5"x2") - but half the thickness.

  • 1.6GHz Atom 230 cpu
  • 1GB DDR2 memory
  • 80GB hard drive
  • Intel 945GSE chipset
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • 802.11n WiFi
  • DVI port
  • two USB ports
  • possible multi-format card reader under front flap
  • third usb port in the front

It is supposed to go on sale in Asia for around $326 in July.

Cheap? How cheap can it be? Under US $100 or it must be cheaper than a barrel of oil to get the title of cheap product!!! Otherwise it is still expensive I suppose.
