After a three year drought, Oddworld's latest game is announced!
Oddworld, a series where essentially you are in an Odd World. In the early games, you would play as a slave named Abe, either trying to save your species, save your friends, or just plain save the world. In the latest one, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, instead of playing Abe, you are a stranger who is a bounty hunter in which you must track down outlaws and take them down in exchange for cash. Oddword Stranger's Wrath was released back in January of 2005, and since then the Oddworld series had slowly been forgotten. But, with news of a new Oddworld popping up recently, it appears the series is back to attract new and old gamers once again!
Maxis co-founder, Jeff Braun, gave a speech at Wilfrid Laurier University and in it, he mentioned that he is involved in the Oddworld series on its new and exciting product. Unfortunately he also mentioned that it may be years before it is released. But of course, confirmation was needed and it was given by Lorne Lanning, the president of Oddworld Inhabitants. Not much is still known about the game unfortunately, as not much was leaked, but one of the main things that was spilled was the mentioning of what the graphics were going to be like.
One of the biggest aspects of the Oddworld series has been the visuals. The games have been praised for their stunning graphics in the past, and from what was said in Braun's speech, it appears as though they will continue doing so. He mentioned that the game will feature a new 3-D animation allowing players to experience visuals to that of almost cinematic quality!
"The rendering tools are getting so good now for 3D animation that you can literally create a linear animation and create a video game using the exact same objects," he said.
3 years drought though. Come on!
