After piracy in Korea was on the rise when the Nintendo DS was released over there, Nintendo has was afraid that the Nintendo Wii might not actually be profitable. Nintendo's goal in Korea was to help develop the Korea gaming industry into a successful business, so when illegal downloads and software copies became common, it helped negate Nintendo's efforts.
Because of this, it isn't hard to see why Nintendo would be skeptical about releasing the Wii in Korea. But, on April 26, 2008, it was released and sold at 220,000 Korean won. Within the first month, with the 50,000 Nintendo Wii's shipped, roughly 35,000 Wii's have been sold thus far!
Nintendo sold seven out of ten Wii units released in Korea during the system’s first month on the market, according to reports.
