They could be closer to reality than expected, but Microsoft won't confirm anything
An OEM subsidiary for hardware giant Asus, Pegatron Technology, has reportedly landed orders from Microsoft itself to commence production of Xbox 360 consoles featuring built-in Blu-ray disc drives (BD-ROM). According to the Economic Daily News (EDN), these Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360 consoles could be made ready for shipment as early as the third quarter of this year. This wouldn't be the first time that word of built-in Blu-ray drives for the Xbox 360 emerged from production sources in Taiwan, though today's tidbit does provide a clearer timeframe as to when they could become reality.
While Microsoft is not adverse to supporting Blu-ray devices for its operating systems, the company has been less accomodating towards establishing Blu-ray as a key component in its console business strategy. We can imagine Microsoft will remain mum on the subject for now, if not shoot it down altogether as it previously has. The rumor will certainly be all the stronger if we do happen to come across updated details on potential Xbox 360 hardware revisions down the line.
much has been said about the 360 and blu-ray but that's just rumors, M$ won't say anything because its ego is bigger than their income and they're too proud to say "we're just copying the ps3"
which is what mostly everyone would do if he was involved in a console war with sony and nintendo...even M$...if it is true though, they'll be forced to spit it out sometime
Well, Time will tell the truth? Maybe in 2009 or 2010.
If Microsoft wants to keep up with the Hi-def video market, then getting a blu-ray xbox or attachment is a good way to go. I wonder how much a bluray xbox would cost though. My current 360 is starting to show some wear on it, so if it lasts until this new xbox comes out, I'll pick one up for sure.
releasing a space movie around the time of the cold war (i'm talking about the space race or whateverthey call it) would certainly mean the incomes would be bigger than if they released it in 1600 (never mind the fact that it's impossible since i'm only trying to explain what i mean)
the other thing about the timing is creativity, if you do sth first then you'll have that extra bonus, however, if you do sth 2nd or 3rd (and so on) people will naturally say you're copying the guy who did it first
microsoft said they didn't want blu-ray and that dvd+ dl discs were fine for them and their games (lost odyssey, anyone?)
now they *may* include what they didn't want to...you're really not thinking they're just copying sony if the rumor is true?
Well, Sony invented blu-ray and put it on their consoles. If xbox did that, well, that is copying, like it or not. It is not unlike microsoft to copy other people, thats pretty much all they do.
