United Kingdom industry sales tracking sevice Chart Track reveals that Nintendo's Wii Fit has hit the PAL region with a bang, shooting straight to pole position during launch. Since its release last Friday, Wii Fit has garnered GBP 16.3 million in sales (approx. $32.4 million USD). Chart Track notes such sales figures handily top those for Mario Kart Wii, previously the record holder for Nintendo's biggest (first-party title) launch yet in the UK, and also the eight biggest UK launch for a console software title.
Based on sales figures alone, Wii Fit secures the third biggest opening week for a console software title in the UK, even though it's priced at GBP 69.99 ($137.95 USD) thanks to its bundled "Balance Board" peripheral. Only Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas and Halo 3 scored larger opening sales, at least thus far. Otherwise Wii Fit becomes the UK's sixth fastest selling console title debut.
Half of all Wii software sold this week was ‘Wii Fit’ sales, while 79% was published by either Nintendo or Sega. It is the first time since ‘Pokemon Ruby’ and ‘Pokemon Sapphire’ on GBA five years ago that Nintendo has had the top 2 games in the All Formats Chart.
