Is Microsoft about to swallow a bitter blue pill?
Digitimes reports that Microsoft may be adopting a built-in Blu-Ray drive from Lite-On for the XBox 360 - with shipments to Microsoft starting as early as the second half of this year.
The problem is that replacing a $20 DVD-ROM with a $95-$100 Bru-Ray drive will increase the cost of manufacturing a Xbox-360 by $75-$80, potentially requiring Microsoft to sell it at a loss. There is also a potential of Sony trying to bollox a Blu-360 by increasing the price of the Blu-Ray read heads it sells to LiteOn.
Already been debunked by Microsoft. DigiTimes was either smoking something or they tried to pull a very lame April Fool's.
