CoD4 gets the online love on Xbox Live, but it's also big for the PS3 as well
With a new "Game of the Year Edition" of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare hitting the Xbox 360 tomorrow, developer Infinity Ward maintains its acclaimed shooter still enjoys record-breaking activity online. Producer Mark Rubin boasts to Eurogamer that CoD4 managed to attract 1.2 to 1.3 million unique users daily for multiplayer on Xbox Live alone for the past two months. Rubin is confident that CoD4 is consistently beating Halo 3 for the online multiplayer gaming crown on XBL, basing his comparison on a "845,000 to a million" daily user count supposedly quoted on Microsoft's Halo website. According to Rubin, "it's crazy. We've created a lot of heartache for a lot of companies who go up against it."
In any case, CoD4 does have the benefit of being a multiplatform title, so the average unique user count can only get higher. While Rubin confides they do not have firm figures for the PC and PlayStation 3 platforms, he believes the number of PS3 players fragging away online daily will still be "monstrously huge". In other words, Rubin is claiming CoD4 is the game to beat when it comes to getting the most number of unique players gaming online per day.
I don't own Call of Duty 4 for the PC. Someone should really put me out of misery. I've heard and read so many good things about this game.
