Budget priced re-releases now hitting PS3 platform, with 5 titles to start this March in Japan.
While folks are worried that Sony Computer Entertainment might turn to bumping up pricing for PlayStation 3 software titles in general assuming the loss leader business model for the console itself continues, the company assuages such fears for now by confirming budget pricing for select PS3 titles. Best selling console titles are often prime candidates for lower pricing upon re-release, and SCE has embraced this for all its console platforms with the "Greatest Hits" branding (also known as "The Best" in Japan). Now "The Best" will be coming to the PS3 this March 19th, at least in Japan, with newer ¥3800 ($36 USD) price points for five current games: Gundam: Target in Sight, Folklore, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Ridge Racer 7. Also new for the Japanese market is a silver colored 40GB PS3 console, dubbed "Satin". It comes packaged with a new DualShock 3 controller featuring force feedback.
Meanwhile, SCE suggests that a "Greatest Hits" lineup is possible for Europe. It wouldn't be out of the question to expect the same for the North American market, but we'll have to wait and see if SCE is in a hurry to make such an announcement here.
And who was worried about price increases in titles? Whoever was worried about THAT was dumb...after all, if they started getting worried about failing in the market, they'd LOWER prices to spark more sales, not raise prices and alienate people >_>
