10 million subscribers definitely translates to a whole lot of dough
As World of Warcraft's horde becomes 10 million strong, Blizzard was bound to rake in some serious scratch. Vivendi too is reaping the benefits of WoW's performance since it holds a signifigant stake in Activision Blizzard, confirming that full year revenue for its gaming division grew 26.6 percent to €1.02 billion ($1.51 billion USD). This marks the first time Vivendi's games publishing arm has hit the billion dollar sales mark.
WoW developer Blizzard enjoyed a 58 percent increase in revenue over 2006 on account of WoW alone, which in turn should be indicative of how much Vivendi Games' latest earnings can be attributed to the momentum of Blizzard's MMORPG. Discounting Blizzard's figures, Vivendi Games' Q4 revenues would actually be 7.2 percent lower than Q4 2006. To be sure, its Sierra Entertainment, Sierra Online and Vivendi Games Mobile businesses underperformed as a result of "unfavorable currency exchange movements".
