Flagship CEO Bill Roper embraces Korea and does a big song and dance
Many were looking forward to the PC game Hellgate: London, and many of them were disappointed by it.
While some would say the game isn't all that bad -- perhaps just released too early -- some others, such as many game review critics, would say the game was really not that great at all, and one of the biggest disappointments of '07.
The game is a multiplayer 3rd person / FPS action-RPG in the theme of Diablo. While Hellgate does not really enough have enough MMORPG elements to qualify it as a real MMORPG, the game does have some elements of instance-based MMORPGs such as Guild Wars.
Because of this less-than-stellar embracing of Hellgate: London in North America, and in Europe, Flagship Studio's probably has a great deal riding on their Korean launch for the game, which just happened recently. Those Koreans love their MMORPGs, and with the game in a better state now (thanks to numerous patches) then it was for the North American / EU launch, maybe it'll have a better chance of finding success. Due to now-past restrictions on Japanese consoles, PC gaming is particularly strong in Korea.
In what might be a first for a game launch, the Flagship Studios CEO Bill Roper sung a song for the audience at hand for the game's Korean launch. The song rendered is "Unchain My Heart", by the legendary Ray Charles. Mr. Roper has a background in music -- he does tenor and baritone singing for the group "The Poxy Boggards" -- and has played in a few bands, so don't worry about him sounding horrible and hurting your ears.
