Microsoft last week spread the word that first-day sales for Halo 3 shattered records for the entertainment industry as a whole. Sales have grown a little more modestly following the ground zero bonanza, as the company today announces that the first week sales for all editions of Halo 3 totalled to a handsome $300 million USD. The latest figures cover sales in all territories where Halo 3 launched. By contrast, first week sales for the Wii edition of The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess was estimated to be around $22-23 million USD, though this figure was for North America alone.
Halo 3 has also been good for Xbox 360 hardware sales, as Microsoft believes its console sales have doubled since the game's release last week. Finally, the game's release promoted activity for Xbox Live, with over a third of the 7 million total registered XBL accounts going online for some Halo 3 action. These 2.7 million XBL Gold gamers have clocked approximately 40 million hours of Halo 3 gaming, collectively unlocking around 30 million game-related achievements over the past few days.
