Apparently football fans want big screen HDTV's
The demand for large screen TV's has historically increased right before Super Bowl as people want to host Super Bowl parties; and the decreasing prices for HDTV's are likely to further fuel sales before Super Bowl Sunday.
Plasma and DLP 50+" prices have dropped up to 20% in the last month, and 42" plasma sets have dropped by as much as 45% - which sounds like a huge drop until you find out that 32" LCD's have dropped by almost 50%
Given such price drops a lot of consumers may bite the bulled and buy a new set, as further price cuts of this magnitude are not very likely until the end of the year.
The increasing availability of HD content over the air, on cable and from satellite - not to mention HD output from gaming consoles will also contribute to flat panel sales.
