I'd switch to Linux if it could run games. Hell I'd pay for it.

It's simple. Multi millions of consumers/enthuiasts have NOT wanted to run or use MS Windows for decades now, but are FORCED to, by makers/programmers of third party (non MS)software and hardware. When Linux is able to run a home, business, or other PC or workstation exactly as Windows does, using the same software and hardware that consumers have already spent tera-trillions on, everybody would install and run Linux. This has ALWAYS been the situation, with never any exact retail consumer soloution(s) from or by Linux.

There's a reason why so few people use Linux despite it being completely free - it *bleep*ing sucks.

Check out these sites for running Windows games and apps (and even Windows) on a Linux box....

Run Windows on a virtual machine inside of Linux
http://www.vmware.com

WineX will run PC games in Linux
http://www.transgaming.com

There's more out here! They should start becoming more apparent in the next year or two. And hopefully, they will become even more popular.

As for Linux and how it "*bleep*ing sucks", that's personal preference. I could say Windows sucks, or that Apple OSX sucks; but someone else might have a different opinion. It's like saying the color blue sucks. It's all personal preference.

Personally, I use Windows for 3D gaming, CAD programs, and some development software. Pretty much all of those I can run through a VMWare virtual machine running on my Fedora Core 6 install. I still prefer to run games under Windows to get the best performance possible, but with that exception and with those other few apps, everything else I do is in Linux.

Personal preference.

Oh, and if you're surfing the net, you're probablly talking with some web server running Apachee, a Linux distro for running web servers. Your cell phone probablly runs Linux. The power company runs Linux. Airports use Linux. PVR video recorders run Linux. Lots of people use Linux without ever knowing it.
