Another lawsuit over violation of controller technology patents has emerged
While Sony is still in the process of appealing a patent infringement lawsuit over technologies utilized in their video game console controllers, Microsoft and Nintendo too have been hit with a similiar lawsuit from Texas-based Anascape earlier this week. Anascape is accusing Microsoft and Nintendo of violating no less than 12 of the company's patents granted between 1995 and 2005, covering a variety controller technologies including force feedback and analog sensitivity.
While Anascape's complaint lists the violated patents in question, it does not detail how exactly the two companies have infringed upon them. In addition to seeking payment with interest for damages, Anascape will also press to have Microsoft and Nintendo become licensees of their technologies, assuming a court ruling will allow the defendants to continue to benefit from the patents. Again, this is very similiar to the resolution Immersion sought with Sony and Microsoft back when it filed their lawsuit against them.
Neither Microsoft nor Nintendo have been scheduled to appear to court at time of writing regarding this lawsuit, as both companies have yet to assign legal representation for themselves.
