If you've ever used a laptop, you've probably noticed that they can get a little hot some times. In fact, a Dell laptop recently caught fire at a trade show in Japan. That poor little guy is back at Dell under going some form of autopsy. And hopefully, they are recovering the files for the user. But take a look at the picture, it's kinda cool . . . or hot I guess.
But yet another Dell box has burst into flames.
The office where this laptop was being used, had to be evacuated. The fire truck came rolling in and was able to extinguish the hardware before any considerable damage was done. Judging by the second and third degree burns it suffered, the laptop must have been closed at the time of combustion. The battery, sadly, had to be put down. The damage there was far too extensive.
Not to wag a finger at Dell, but a recently leaked company document reported that dozens of laptops have been affected. The exact cause is unknown, but faulty engineering or insufficient cooling may be to blame. The most likely culprit however, is the battery.
If you're the type that gets a chuckle out of these sorts of things, you can find more pictures here. Just keep a fire extinguisher handy.
