The very nice people over at ZDNet are reporting that SquareSoft's Final Fantasy XI Online will levy a monthly charge. The fantasy RPG will utilize SquareSoft's PlayOnline network service and cost players up to US$9.25 a month for online gaming.

There are rumours that this latest installment in the saga will be an exclusively online game. Just how successful such a divergent game will be under the Final Fantasy flag and just how many people are willing to pay to play remains to be seen.

    i think final fantasy XI is a money scam, squaresoft probably have billions of dollars and now they are charging 10 bucks a month, i thought it would be about 5 but not 10.
