Western Digital has posted a January 31, 2006 ship date for its new SATA Hard Drive. The new model from the Caviar line is marketed as being fast, cool and quiet.

The Caviar SE16 features 16MB of cache with a 7200RPM Rotational speed, allowing for a maximum of 300MB/s Transfer Rate. Western Digital has also included new features for quiet operation, WhisperDrive and SoftSeek, which will aid in the overall acoustics of the Drive.
