We certainly weren't counting on Capcom to drop their Resident Evil franchise anytime soon, but on the other hand it is sort of nice knowing that survival horror will (eventually) make its mark on the next generation of gaming consoles. Capcom has announced Resident Evil 5 for Sony's PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, and they are promising to utilize the potential both consoles have to offer to take their seminal survival horror series to the next level. Unfortunately, they have yet to confirm a release for the Nintendo Revolution, but likely because we are still being left in the dark over many key features of that particular console.
Preliminary game screens have actually been released in Japanese magazine scans you should easily find floating around the Net by now. It's worth noting that since none of the next-generation consoles have yet to launch, we shouldn't get too excited with the prospect of hearing further game details anytime soon. Considering the major changes Resident Evil 4 went through before it finally launched on the GameCube, don't be surprised to see similiarly sweeping changes applied over the course of development for the fifth official installment.
