NVIDIA Opens SLI
Tom Karpik - Monday, June 20th, 2005 | 11:19AM (PT)

Intel, VIA, and SiS now have the information required to make SLI chipsets

At the recent Editor's Day in California, NVIDIA talked about their "SLI Certification Program", and put some rumours to rest by stating that they are not only testing nForce 4 chipsets in their lab. Intel's i945X and i955X, as well as other chipsets from VIA and SiS, are being put to the test to see whether they match NVIDIA's requirements for SLI certification.

You don't need to be an MIT graduate to understand the logic of latest nV's moves: when talking to representatives of Intel, nVIDIA learned that problem with double-barreled graphics systems is lack of standardisation, and now it appears that the Green Goblin company is working in silence with other manufacturers in order to get non-nV SLI products out the door and gain advantage over CrossFire ...

Smart move by NVIDIA -- perhaps they're feeling the heat of the CrossFire?

Okay, fine. I won't try that again, sorry. ;-)

I might add that Nvidia has not officially found any other chipsets that have passed their stringent requirements for SLI.

What's interesting is that Nvidia would be more than happy to have ATI adopt SLI as well. Standardisation anyone? Of course I think NVIDIA were pretty tongue in cheek with that idea, since I'm sure ATI isn't as thrilled about it.
