60,000 AMD Processors Seized
Terren Tong - Tuesday, January 4th, 2005 | 10:56AM (PT)

Defective processors remarked and resold

According to DigiTimes and several other publications, there was a seizure of 60,000 counterfeit chips in a warehouse raid yesterday.

Over a million re-marked AMD CPUs have allegedly been shipped to Germany and China, the Chinese-language Liberty Times reported Saturday, adding that the value of the seized CPUs would be about NT$300 million (about US$9.46 million).

Sources at AMD Taiwan confirmed that the 60,000 seized in Taiwan are defective CPUs rejected by the company

That's a lot of remarked processors - it is kind of mindboggling how that many chips went missing before these people were caught. One thing to always remember is that price is not always everything and it is important to buy from a reputable company so in a situation like this there is someone to complain to.
