ATI slashes prices on upcoming X800 parts

Some big movement on the pricing of two of the more intriguing RADEON X parts recently announced, ATI let us know that the 16 pipe X800 XL will now be priced at $299 while the 12 pipe X800 will be priced at $199, a $50 price drop on both parts.  This puts a lot of pressure onto NVIDIA's 6800, 6800GT and 6600GT parts and reshapes the 199$ to 299$ landscape pretty dramatically.  The only problem is that ATI needs to start delivering some parts into retail.   A quick trip over to a couple of my favorite retailers show a lack of any of the recently announced parts so while on paper these parts look fantastic, ATI really needs to get them into the hands of end users.

amen to that. Most retailers list x800 xl at $480 - $680 (ATI list $399 CAD) and until more cards are available the prices aren't likely to drop. a shame, because I'd really like to get an XL in my new system...

I also have not been able to find one anywhere near the $299 MSRP although I had better luck than Peter as I have found them as low as $379 but that still is nowhere near the $299 I got so excited reading about. If ATI is going to announce a price they need to be able to back it up with the actual product!
