nForce 4 Chipset Updates
Leo Chan - Friday, August 20th, 2004 | 10:21AM (PT)

Ultra, non-Ultra, SLI and Pro versions all lined up

VR-Zone translates some further details that have emerged on French website X86-secret.com regarding Nvidia's upcoming nForce 4 chipset lineup.  For the most part, they confirm what was previously revealed in the last rumor roundup:

  • nForce 4 : Standard version built with cheaper motherboard but without sacrificing performance for entry level PC. Support standard features like Four x1 PCI-E slots, Five PCI slots, eight S-ATA drives and six P-ATA drives
  • nForce 4 Ultra : Improved version with additional functionalities like dual NVIDIA Gigabit Ethernet, NVIDIA RAID,
SP-10 Soundstorm 2 audio. Supports S-ATA II (3GBit/s) as well as advanced firewall options.
  • nForce 4 SLI : For the workstations and gamers supporting SLI mode. One x16 PCI-E slot and one x8 for SLI card (x16 slot)
  • nForce 4 Pro : For servers solutions with Dual Opteron with multiprocessing capabilities up to eight way. Supports additional PCI Express HyperTransport controller with NVIDIA IO4

SLI technology, in case you forgot, is Nvidia's refreshed spin on the idea of running two video cards at once on one system, in this case up to Geforce 6 series PCI-E cards on different PCI-E slots.

The news byte mentions that initial samples for the nForce 4 are to be made available for Nvidia's partners in the motherboard arena quite soon, with the official productline announcement scheduled sometime later in September.

ati is sooo screwed... they will have to compete with 2 top-of-the-line Nvidia cards at once... should be fun to compare the benchmarks

To nhbfg The new SLI mobo will not be limited to Nvidia vid cards. 2 ATI Cards will work on it.

well, yomama, did u actually see the specs for the x800? b4 u say "ati sux" u should do a bit of research. the x800 and the 6800 platinum editions are both equal in my view and that of others, but the significant advantage that the x800 has is the low heat output, and that translates to low power use, more overclocking, and less heat on your case, wich will increase ure preformance overall by a very small percentage..... but as you know, evrything counts. btw i am a nvidia fan, and if nvidia released the 6800 that didnt run so hot, i would certainly buy it over ati.

IWILL has showcased their Demo of a dual opteron system with 16gigs of ram, dual sata controllers, dual gigabit lan, and dual PCI-E x16 slots. Oddly enough the Nforce4 chipset is coupled with a integrated ati rage graphics card in case the mobo is used only as a server.
