Following Microsoft's lead with the price cut on their Xbox video game system early last month (news), Sony Computer Entertainment today has announced a price reduction of their own for their PlayStation 2 system. Previously available for a MSRP of $179 US (standalone, with no bundle), you'll soon be able to pick up one for $149 US. Well, assuming you don't have one already.
"Industry analysts had suggested that if Sony did not lower the price on its PS2 to spur sales, U.S. game software makers, many of whom track Sony's fiscal year, might find sales growth targets harder to reach.
They had speculated that Sony might cut the price of the PS2 by the opening of E3, the video game industry's annual trade show, which started this week in Los Angeles."
Looks like they speculated correctly. Price cuts are also planned for the official system bundles Sony offers for the PlayStation 2 as well.
