Interesting news for Dragon Quest fans has recently popped up from Square Enix, suggesting there may still be a chance of localization for the previously released Dragon Quest VII on the Nintendo 3DS. Following a fan petition, the developers of the series have chosen to reconsider their original stance on the localization project of the remake, and are currently reviewing their options to bring the title to North America.
During an interview with website USGamer, Yuu Miyake, executive producer of the Dragon Quest series, gave fans a bit of insight regarding whether or not the title could hit western markets. Square Enix had originally wanted to bring Dragon Quest VII overseas, but they were unsure of fan reception. Fortunately, a French petition was started, signed, and has now given the company a green light.
At the moment, there aren't any official details other than the fact that the company is looking at various options or methods, processing finances and other development malarkey. Will Dragon Quest VII hit North American and European Nintendo 3DS handhelds? I honestly can't say, but it would be nice to battle my way through a 100+ hour title on a New Nintendo 3DS.
For the record, the last mainstream Dragon Quest title that was localized was Dragon Quest VI on the Nintendo DS, way back in February of 2011. So here's hoping that Square Enix decides we're due for a new one.
