The sequel that may never have been, if not for the startling partnership between Nintendo and Platinum Games, is less than two months away. Bayonetta 2 will be here shortly, but Nintendo apparently feels like more could be done to build hype for the intense action game. Today, via Twitter, Nintendo announced an upcoming Nintendo Direct specifically for Bayonetta 2. Mark the calendar for September 4, just two days away, and tune in to the live stream on Nintendo's official website.
What's there to share about Bayonetta 2? Who knows! My assumption would be that the stream will come on and blight flashing lights will be shown for thirty minutes, overdubbed with sexual groaning. There's really not a lot left to discuss about Bayonetta 2 unless there's something really crazy up Platinum's sleeve. The series is known for its extreme action, its random yet sensory-abusing mini-games, its disrespect of religious iconography and its sexy librarian protagonist. Oh, and reveling in the confusion of the player. Japan. So, so Japan.
Bayonetta 2 is planned to release in Japan on September 20, which may be the reason for this relatively early Nintendo Direct. After all, it won't be launching in North America until October 28. Or, Nintendo may just be getting the Bayonetta 2 Nintendo Direct out of the way so they can focus on Super Smash Bros. advertising and so on in the months ahead.
Anyway, the Wi U will be getting Bayonetta 2 soon -- exclusively. That's more sexy librarian protagonist than the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will ever have.
Bayonetta 2's Nintendo Direct will air on Thursday, September 4 at 3:00 PM PDT, 6:00 PM EDT. Tune in on Thursday for our Nintendo Direct liveblog.
