“It doesn’t matter who you were,
Only what you will become”
It is these rousing words that set the tone for the latest in a series of trailers from Bungie, aimed at building the hype levels for the release of Destiny next month. Last week it was a look at Mars and this time around there’s a chance for players to get a glimpse at what can be expected from a trip to the planet Venus. Once Venus was a paradise and home to an some form of great discovery. It would seem that was a long time ago, judging by the current state of the place mind, and now the ruins appear to be inhabited by enemies previously unencountered in either the Alpha or Beta tests of the game.
Venus is still somewhat oddly reminiscent of the moon mission that was made available for a limited time during the record setting beta last month. Only, there's grass layered in over the boulders and a rather barren landscape. The prevailing theme of grey throughout is very similar to not only the Moon mission, but also the washed out nature of the Old Russia region too. Hopefully the full release will bring more variation to the world of Destiny and expand the color palette a tad more.
That’s not to say Venus isn’t packing some epic looking punch in the latest trailer. I can’t wait to find out what new and interesting ways a tunnel seemingly emanating lighting has of killing me. It also comes with a new, very shiny looking enemy in the form of the Vex. The Vex are, “mass-produced machine units, constructed of an unknown metal.” Whatever this metal is I’m sure it’s none too fond of a few rounds from a trusty Scout Rifle. Described as hostile, unrelenting and deadly the Vex, sound like a less than ideal foe to come across during a day trip to visit the ancient ruins of Venus. I feel for any Archaeologists who fancy doing research there.
Destiny drops in just over 3 weeks time, September 9, on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
