Back where it all began, a new Rime trailer was presented during Sony's gamescom performance this year. Originally revealed at gamescom 2013, Rime tells the tale of a young boy, cursed and stranded on an island. Solving puzzles looks like the only way to get back to society.
Tequila Works's upcoming title, Rime, is a game told not through text, but through visual and auditory sensations. As the player explores the island, a story will be crafted through use of music and video. This trailer shows off just a small bit of that in its two minutes. The young boy finds a sky-scraping tower in the middle of a large ocean, and begins his journey to find what's inside.
Observant watchers may notice repeated patterns throughout the trailer. The lock symbol on the tower can also be found on a solitary rock on a lone beach. The heads of the giant walking robots look oddly similar to the device screwed into the pedestal at the end -- a key creating a bridge to the boy's destination.
What is Rime? Rime is a puzzle. Owners of the Sony PlayStation 4 will be able to experience the puzzling title in its full glory one day, but for now, no release date has been revealed. For those like me who love the Wind Waker-esque art style, the glorious cel-shaded trailer can be seen below. Make sure to pay close attention to the music -- it's something that won't be forgotten.
