Garrosh must go back... to the future. Blizzard took to the stage at Gamescom early this morning to officially unveil a release date for World of Warcraft's upcoming expansion. Warlords of Draenor will be available starting November 13 and it's brewing up to be a blast to the past. Accompanying the release date announcement was a full cinematic setting the scene for the events of Warlords of Draenor. A scene long-term Warcraft fans may recognize.
In the cinematic we go back to a time before Warcraft, before the first war. While players at the time may not have known it, the Pit Lord Mannoroth had cursed the orcs with his blood. This blood frenzy drives the orcs to invade, defeating the human settlements on Azeroth and pushing them to Lordaeron. The question this new cinematic asks is, what if? What if Grom Hellscream, one of the twelve chieftains, had known that Mannoroth's blood would enslave him. What if he knew of Gul'Dan's betrayal? What if he hadn't drank the blood?
This cinematic is the the first part of our answer to "What if?" The second question is "How?" That part is only answered after a hooded figure in the trailer is later revealed to be Garrosh, Grom's son. He's shown Grom the threat of Mannoroth and they work together to defeat him. Freedom! The orcs are free! Now they can live happy, peaceful lives... oh, no. Nope, that's not happening. They're just going to try and conquer Azeroth without the help of the demon's blood.
Garrosh has gone back and changed history, so the heroes of the World of Warcraft must counter his efforts. They'll have to face the newly made Iron Horde and unknown other forces on Draenor, before it became the Outland wasteland. And they'll only have 10 new levels to do it!
World of Warcraft's next expansion, Warlords of Draenor, will be available starting November 13.
