With gamescom 2014 just a week away now, it's no surprise that some teasers are starting top pop up. gamescom is certainly now the second largest gaming convention for publishers to show off their wares, disconsidering perhaps PAX and the VGX awards due to their different focuses. Today's teaser is from Sony, who dropped a short, snowy trailer that could imply a PlayStation surprise come August 13.
The teaser trailer, tagged with the eye-rolling title #PlayStationGC, features little to know actual content. A magnified snowflake splattered with blood, ice over standing water beginning to crack and blood pooling overtop of it, and finally the snowflake turned red still spinning in the air. It's almost a little poem, but behind it probably lies an ultraviolent action game that's sure to get the bros all riled up and antsy.
Seriously, I have no idea what the teaser trailer is for. It could just be symbolism for gamescom. Is it snowy there this time of year? Does gamescom feature prize fights or gladiatorial arenas in the snow? No? Well then, I suppose we've got either a game announcement coming up or a new trailer for one of Sony's in-development projects. Considering the quality of the CG and the cinematic nature of the trailer, all I could think it might be is Uncharted 4. Naughty Dog loves this stuff.
Really though, it could be anything. Stay tuned for more PlayStation news out of gamescom starting next week. Odds are Sony's got some other teasers lined up before the show begins. It'd be pretty cruel to leave us here analyzing a bloody snowflake.
