Raiden's sleeves are full of lightning. Everyone knows about it, but then they wouldn't be in Mortal Kombat X's tournament if they didn't think they could deal with it. Today we get to see why one of these combatants is dead wrong. Kotal Kahn, current emperor of Outworld, thinks he can beat Raiden. Raiden, in turn, decides to take the opportunity to show off his three fighting styles. Fair warning, this trailer has eyeballs popping out of skulls.
In Mortal Kombat X each fighter has three different fighting styles, with each style offering various bonuses and skills that the other styles don't offer. Raiden's three styles are explained as follows:
- Thunder God: "Enhances Raiden's lightning attacks, allowing him to string together longer combos and do more damage."
- Displacer: "Raiden gains new teleportation moves that make him difficult to contain and more mobile in combat."
- Storm Lord: "Create lightning traps with wide areas of effect that allow him to control the battlefield."
Ed Boon himself provided the following descriptions and you can hear them for yourself in the trailer for Raiden provided, with plenty of gruesome visuals too.
Raiden is a staple character in the Mortal Kombat franchise and it should be no surprise that hes returned. He's the freaking Guardian of Earth Realm, after all. Rumor is he isn't the only old faithful character to be returning, beyond Scorpion and Sub Zero of course. Rumor is that one Mr. Kano might be the next officially revealed fellow. I'm sure he's not the only friendly face hidden off-screen though.
Mortal Kombat X will be available, tentatively, in June 2015. It will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
