Ganondorf was not the only Hyrule Warriors character revealed tonight. Joining him as playable villains are Zant, King of Twilight from Twilight Princess, and Ghirahim the tricky psychopath from Skyward Sword. Both antagonists are known for being complete sadists, so what could possibly go wrong when they are unleashed in the middle of a war for Hyrule?
Zant, the calm and collected maniac from Twilight Princess makes his presence known through the use of his weapon of choice, the scimitar. He appears skillful enough to slice up his enemies with the same ease and casualness as a game of Fruit Ninja, but the blade is not all Zant has in his arsenal. Alongside his suave aerial moves, the Nintendo Direct also chose to show off his ability to squish enemies like bugs -- literally. Zant can nearly triple in size and topple everything in his path.
The other villain, first seen long ago but shown off tonight for the first time as a playable character, is Ghirahim, the monster from Skyward Sword with an outfit that looks kind of like a deck of cards. His crazy look actually matches his personality, as the slave to Demise has no plans other than murdering anything he does not like, usually in a pretty gruesome manner. Nevertheless, Ghirahim returns to Hyrule Warriors, this time using the Demon Blade to crush mobs of enemies. In addition to his sword, Ghirahim takes on the role of the prankster, using many magic and glyphic attacks to imprison, then crush, anyone within a short range.
One key thing to take away from Hyrule Warriors is a simple phrase: all bad guys use swords. Whether this is applied in future Legend of Zelda titles or not is still a mystery, but we can expect to see it in Hyrule Warriors, coming exclusively to the Nintendo Wii U on September 26, 2014.
