Fans got a nice surprise before leaving the Dragon Quest summer festival in Tokyo this weekend. Taichi Inazuka, producer of many titles in the Dragon Quest series, has announced that there is a Dragon Quest Monsters title currently in development.
Unfortunately, Inazuka did not release too much information for the upcoming unnamed title. All that's known at the moment is that it is currently in development and will feature the same "competitive fun" the Dragon Quest Monsters series is known for. I hope to see the monster fusion that the Monsters franchise is known for, or an iteration on the system.
It's a shot in the darkness to hope for a localization of the title considering the last thing North America got was a port of Dragon Quest VIII on Android and iOS platforms, but crazier things have happened in the RPG world. The last title to hit the eastern market in the franchise was Dragon Quest Monsters 2 on the Nintendo 3DS, a remake of a previous entry in the series. Those of us in the west did get Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 on the Nintendo 3DS, so maybe all hope is not lost.
Players can hope for news regarding a title and more details in the near future, but I will be waiting solely for an announcement regarding online gameplay. After all, how could anyone resist the draw of getting to crush friends and family with crazy chibi monsters?
