All hail Swoop, Toggle and Oddsock, our new LittleBigPlanet overlords. Gone are the days of the tyrant SockBoy's heavy-handed rule. Now is the dawn of a new day. A day of ridiculous looking sock animals and sock mutant things. Okay, so maybe today isn't the day, but it's coming up soon. Today Sony and the LittleBigPlanet 3 team announced that LittleBigPlanet 3 would be arriving on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 starting November 18.
Along with the release date announcement came the reveal of a dozen different pre-order bonuses with different retailers. Considering I feel gross even mentioning this fact, you'll have to find out what crap they've put together on your own. Ugh, pre-order crap. I need a cold shower.
The more we really learn about LittleBigPlanet 3, the less I'm getting excited about it. Releasing November 18 and with insane amounts of retailer-exclusive pre-order content, in tandem with the fact that LittleBigPlanet 3's developer is Sumo Digital and not Media Molecule, it's clear what the game's purpose is. It's meant to be Sony's kids game for the holiday season. You know, the game that parents who are considering buying a PS3 or PS4 for their kid on Black Friday will pick up instead of those other violent and mature games. Ah, who am I kidding, they pick up Call of Duty for their kids too.
I'm not saying LittleBigPlanet 3 will be disappointing, or anywhere near bad. I am saying that anyone setting their expectations very high for anything other than an expanded campaign and the same features we've come to expect from the series is going to be disappointed. At least Swoop, Toggle and OddSock are brilliant moves.
Pick up LittleBigPlanet 3 starting November 18 on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3.
