Another year, another crazy Comic-Con sweeps through San Diego. San Diego Comic-Con, typically shortened to SDCC, began on Wednesday with Preview Night, the unofficial start to the convention, and the day many diehard attendees spend snagging exclusives and spending all their money in the exhibit hall.
Typically speaking, this is the least busy day of SDCC, but you really couldn't have guessed that by just looking at the crowds. In fact, we found ourselves wondering where these crowds had spawned. Take a tour with us in our Preview Night image gallery.
Gaming companies were out in force, attracting a sea of attendees with their offerings of con-exclusives for sale. Demo stations were packed, and trailers were played on loop for passersby to gawk at. The Bandai Namco booth was absolutely swamped, halting all surrounding foot traffic as volunteer staff loudly ushered everyone along. Blizzard turns people away after capping their line a few times throughought the day. Capcom proudly showed off everything Monster Hunter, while Evolve was made playable at the Xbox booth.
It's a crazy time alright, and the chaos only thickened as we drew closer toward the heart of the exhibit hall, where LucasFilm is blasting Clone Wars and showing off a ton of Star Wars merchandise. Somewhere in the back, a Valve Store is adorned with Balloonicorns, Companion Cubes and more.
One of the biggest highlights, however, has to be the partially animatronic Smaug from The Hobbit. While con attendees walked back and forth beneath the massive statue of the drowsy red dragon, his eyes would slowly open and close.
Be sure to see more of our photos from Preview Night in the gallery below. Keep in mind we focused mostly on the exhibit hall, where all the vendors -- big or small -- congregate every year. Stay tuned to see more of our visual updates for San Diego Comic-Con 2014.
