There are indie games and there are indie games. Deconstructeam is developing one of those indie games, if you understand my meaning. Gods Will Be Watching is a point and click game, though I stop short of calling it an adventure. They call it a thriller, but I don't think I'm comfortable describing it until I experience it entirely for myself. Gods Will Be Watching is about choices, difficult choices, the kind that rip the ideas behind ethics and judgment away and throw them out the window.
Gods Will Be Watching is launching this Thursday, July 24, and to help spread the word publisher Devolver Digital has released a launch trailer for the PC game. To be honest, the launch trailer doesn't really capture the violence and severity of its scenarios. From what I've seen of the game so far, there's a tone to the game that's gut-wrenching and disturbed at the least. This launch trailer, on the other hand, makes Gods Will Be Watching look as much like Space Adventure as it does Hotline Miami.
Nevertheless, the tension of the game is well represented. Without making it obvious, Gods Will Be Watching's launch trailer makes it clear that the player will be encountering serious situations where every choice will have dramatic consequences. What comes after those choices isn't clear, but it's likely that no one will be happy with the outcome. Ah, video games seem to have grown up so fast.
Gods Will Be Watching will be available starting July 24 on PC, Mac and Linux via Steam, GoG and the Humble store. If the launch trailer below piques anyone's interest, I'd recommend searching further and seeing just how crazy things can get.
