Kickstarter-success The Long Dark today received a brand new trailer, titled "Echoes," and it's every bit as haunting and lovely as one would expect from this unique take on the post-apocalypse. Oh, and developer Hinterland Studio is looking to kick off Early Access this fall.
For those out of the loop, The Lone Dark is a first-person survival sim that began on Kickstarter and drew much early attention thanks to the involvement of Raphael van Lierop, a man with games like Far Cry 3 and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine under his belt. It quickly gained supporters, and Hinterland Studio devs have been steadily making their way toward launch, while keeping fans updated on the entire process.
In fact, that's a part of why Hinterland is looking for Early Access candidates; the developers want to test their game on the actual fans. Come September 2014 (later this year), the Sandbox Alpha will make its way to Steam Early Access, so interested parties can actually help the devs with proper feedback. The Story mode won't be accessible during this phase in order to avoid spoilers.
Be sure to check The Long Dark official site for more information on all that, but stay a while and listen to Mark Meer's soothing voice as he narrates the trailer. The music is by Cris Velasco, one of several award-winning composers at Hinterland.
Our hero is one William Mackenzie, a postal delivery pilot whose plan goes down in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. The rest of the world had succumbed to some unknown catastrophe while he was in the air, and as the ailing state of society becomes more apparent to William, he must learn to survive amidst a new one. Throughout his journey, tough decisions will have to be made.
