She's not, she was the romance option in the first game and you're a different character now.

Anyway, time to bitch about aesthetics some more!
Bioware, is consistent facial structure really that difficult? You couldn't even keep the eye color straight, I can see that and I'm partially color blind.

You guys have one of the strongest engines around for facial recognition, a limitless budget, and apparently total creative freedom and you are getting outdone by slavic witchcraft channeled through a pile of rocks assembled to vaguely resemble computers.

Holy crap she looks the same between two games! How do they do it!?

I'm now convinced Bioware's character modelers see the world in non-euclidean geometry, because they can't hold a shape longer than ten minutes.

Agree.
I originally thought it was due to engine change.Change to Frostbite.
Here's some of Gaider thinking on tumblr:

http://dgaider.tumblr.com/post/69901751396/on-character-appearances-and-mods

I was one of those allegedly nickpicking on the Cassandra thread btw.

What are we really saying David ? I wonder there. It's not just eyecandy. It's familiarity in the case of previous characters. It's comfort. It's you loved that character and so you wanted them to be the same when you saw them again.Sheesh.I guess Gaider in his hautiness aka lover of fans tears and distainer it seems of their concerns cannot see.He can't see it because it's something the fans wanted.

Reminds of the mod Ninja Stan who I had a long discussion with.He too was distainful and scornful of the fans, believing the fans are always wrong and Bioware was always right in everything it said and did.

I find that behavior odd and diconcerning about Bioware.I think Mazuyka, the former creator of Bioware let a lot go on there that he shouldn't have let go on and Aaryn Flynn had better put an end to it or it will ultimately lead to Bioware's demise.

I know that sounds strong, but that's my opinion.

Gaider has a pretty big track record for being a dismissive prick when it comes to fan complaints, like the infamous "The key part was that you THINK she's dead" nonsense and his Internet Definititionstm. Now, there are people who are shitty and who comment to the effect of "why aren't they pretty to me?" but as far as I can tell they make up a minority. More people are just asking for design consistency and they're shot down and called sexist/homophobic/racist/etc whatever suits the topic at hand.

It's getting to a point where it feels like Bioware, particularly Gaider since he tends to be at the head of these things, is just using marginalized groups as a shield against legitimate concerns while they kick out anyone who doesn't join in on their "You're so progressive and great, Bioware!" echo chamber.

Cassandra's a pretty strong point for how I think of it, she had a strong jaw line and short hair in her original appearance, what they've done is move up her cheek bones, sunken in her eyes, made her brow line rounder, thinned her lips and nose, narrowed her neck and changed her entire skull to a down and forward slant. That's not the same person. I'm a huge fan of the more butch warrior women archetype and I still dislike this change because I wouldn't have known that's the same person without being told. Age her a little, say she took a few hits in combat to get some scars, make her thinner and say she's been eating less due to stress and apply those changes to the existing character. Don't make up a wholly new one with the vaguest of semblances and try to sell it as the same person.

PAX demo changed up the model again, fixing some of the neck thickness, browline, lips, nose and cheekbones. So it's good that they have done something that makes her looks like the same person but she's been through some shit. I'm pretty happy with it now.

Low phone quality image aside, it's nice to see them return a character to a recognizable appearance. Neck is still a bit too thin for the whole warrior woman thing, people who fight and wear armor should have stronger shoulders than that neck implies.

The one character that is decent looking is not romanceable. It makes sense though. The aesthetic changes don't bother me and it's nothing a mod can't fix.

Xeros the Slayer I always post these and then wait excitedly for your insight!

But yeah, I do agree that the transitions per game are incredibly jarring. After all, who can forget Isabela, a character who went from being a rather plain-looking mercenary to sex bomb? It's... I don't know.

Oh, and Ashley in Mass Effect 3...

Xeros the Slayer Err, Isn't that first pic of Leliana you posted from the "Sacred Ashes" trailer? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGbgcmNxFh4 *All* of the party members changed a lot in appearance between the promotional trailer (which had an Uncanny Valley aspect) and DAO (2nd Pic) .

Nevertheless, I agree with your point that there should be continuity in character's appearances (not to mention personality and backstory).

RabidChinaGirl Ahaha, I don't think I'd call it insight so much as ramblings. I'm just bugged by inconsistencies when they're supposed to be the same person and you're right, Ashley in 3 is a huge example of this, to the point where it even screws with characterization. In 1 she even says in a conversation that you'll never see her in those tight fitting officer love-interest skirts... and then ME3 comes along and that's exactly what's going on.

It is, and that was part of the point on image continuity.Only one who looks pretty familiar in that thing is Morrigan. The only time there hasn't been pretty big changes in a character's appearance was the DAO party members going into DA2 and that was because it was the same engine so they were just pulled straight over.

Although thinking about it I believe the trailer was made by a third party?

Frostbite is notoriously difficult to mod and EA/DICE refuse to put out the tools to the public. And that just made me wonder if they'll tie game logic to fps like they did with ME3. Another Frostbite game, Need for Speed Rivals, did. That was especially stupid since it's a racer but on ME3 it resulted in some weird stuff. Enemy response times were tied to frames, so at 20~ they couldn't hit anything, at 60~ the game was about a difficulty level higher than it notes, and at 80+ it is impossible since enemies can lock in on you in about .01 seconds. I hope they don't.

Would be a shame, and a waste of potential. Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 is a lot of fun modding.

I think Gaider needs to psychanalyzed by somebody. Maybe he then would realize being as he is is doesn't do anything worthwhile.Of course he would have to initiate that himself unless Bioware/EA made him do it.I doubt they would.Mazuyka could have done it, had him go through some kind of counselling or treatment/anger management back in the day but he didn't.He should have, that's obvious.shrugs.

Yes continuity of appearance is what I wanted.Eyecandy wasn't the cause of my concern, but I was dismissed anyway. I am still surprised Laidlaw let that go.I would have thought he would have made sure it got fixed.I guess my opinion of him has taken a hit.

Bioware hasn't even said what the pc specs are.I thought they would have at least released those at EA.I am surprised they didn't and still haven't.
Buying the pc version in the hope Bioware will someday change their minds and release a toolkit or some hacker will find away to mod the game seems a longshot to me.
But I am concerned about the Xbox and PS3 versions of the game being deficient/inferior to the new gen versions.
shrugs.

Apparently Bioware have descaled the PC version to look similar to the Xbone and PS4 consoles. Whether this is Bioware/EA's attempt at trying to get more interesting in the console versions remain to be seen.

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

Before you implore me to not change Leliana's eye color know that the seemingly brown eyes are a bug in some screens are a bug.

I guess we can be happy that this is just a bug then if people are really upset with the eye colour.
