Nexon, publisher of online and free-to-play titles like MapleStory, Combat Arms, and the upcoming Dirty Bomb, has a new partnership to announce. It should be surprising, as I definitely didn't see it coming. United Front Games will be working with Nexon for their next title. Yes, the Sleeping Dog developers, but what comes next may be just as surprising. They're working together on a free-to-play title. Expect it in 2015.
Considering United Front Game has built up a pretty amazing reputation since their initial endeavor, ModNation Racers, in 2010 my initial feeling is trepidation mixed with intrigue. Since Sleeping Dogs in 2012, United Front Games has been involved in a couple of interesting, but non-major projects like the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition port for Xbox One and the Sleeping Dogs follow-up Triad Wars. A free-to-play title will be coming next? Whatever could they have in store?
Since the project is not with Square Enix, it's certainly not going to be related to Sleeping Dogs or Tomb Raider. A ModNation Racers free-to-play title is, at least concept-wise, viable, but that property is likely the property of Sony and not United Front. What does that mean for the 2015 game? There's then two options that sound realistic in my head. Either it's a new IP that United Front is excited about, or Nexon has asked United Front to take over one of their Korean titles or other properties in order to prep it for the masses.
Hopefully we'll hear more information on United Front Games' next title and their publishing partnership before too long. Again, considering the reputation United Front has built up it's hard not to be intrigued.
