BioWare Edmonton, the original development studio of Mass Effect, announced today their work on a new but still-unnamed IP. The game, whatever it ends up being, is still very early in development, but publisher EA did show some conceptual prototype footage, confirming the new franchise will be sci-fi. Mass Effect earned a mention too, but the next installment in EA's wildly successful sci-fi RPG has been handed off to a different BioWare.
Yes, many BioWare fans were expecting to see the next Mass Effect during EA's press conference today in LA. Sadly, it's still being kept under wraps, but we do know that EA Montreal has been tasked with development now that BioWare Edmonton has another project to tackle. Good thing we have so many BioWare offices now.
So don't expect to see any new Mass Effect stuff in the video, though you can enjoy some of that early (and completely not final) footage showing some of Edmonton's work-in-progress. Looks enough like Mass Effect to grab the fans, possibly.
