Electronic Arts' original plan was to save Battlefield Hardline's announcement for their E3 press conference on Monday, but leak after leak prevented that. The company did a rather awesome job of semi-announcing the game to sate gamers' thirst for information, and now they've gone full out with a release date reveal too. Battlefield Hardline will take to the streets starting October 21.
As for the a full reveal, well, everyone will still have to wait for EA's June 9 press conference. They're saving their best for the full show. They did, however, put out some interesting details for fans to peak at. Notably there's a brand new gameplay trailer, but I had just as much fun with the Youtube description on it:
"Visceral Games brings its critically-acclaimed storytelling swagger to an all new cops and criminal fantasy inspired by some of the most popular TV crime dramas."
Oh man, isn't that just the worst description you've ever heard for a game in your life? I actually have high hopes for Battlefield Hardline and its city streets setting, but "storytelling swagger" inspired by TV crime dramas? Ah, someone slap me. How in the world connecting Battlefield to Law & Order is a good idea is well beyond me. Storytelling swagger. Yikes.
Ignoring that description, the idea of paramilitary police corps warring against increasingly well-equipped criminals sounds awesome in large-scale multiplayer battles sounds awesome. Bring the fight into the offices, streets and homes we see every day and make them into Michael Bay set-pieces for explosions. I don't really need much storytelling swagger on top of that.
Expect more information on Battlefield Hardline on June 9 and then throughout E3 and make sure to mark October 21 on your calendar. That's when the game hits PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In the meantime, make sure to enjoy this new trailer titled "Into the Jungle.
