Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners will be seeing several updates to Xbox LIVE this week, adding a number of features for both consoles. That includes external storage for Xbox One, being able to use your real name on Xbox LIVE, and improved SmartGlass integration. That'd be the Xbox LIVE app, for anyone who doesn't know.
If you've been struggling with the provided storage (hey, games eat up a lot of space), then the external storage support coming to Xbox One ought to be good news. All you need to do is plug in a 256 GB or larger USB 3.0 external HD. After it's formatted, simply copy and move games, apps, and other stuff around as you please.
What are the perks of sharing real names on LIVE? Well, it might make identifying people on your friends list a lot easier, especially with the number of LIVE friends increased to 1,000 on Xbox One. Don't worry too much about privacy, because Microsoft will implement a number of privacy options with the real name thing. Full control will be given to the user, letting you choose who to share your real name with, from friends to custom subsets, and so on.
The third major feature coming this week (and not the last for June) are the improved SmartGlass options and integration. Keep your eye out for the updates. For Xbox Gold subscribers, a 3-day trial of Hulu Plus will also go out this week, along with the launch of Games with Gold and Deals with Gold.
